What is the General Administration Fund?
The General Administration Fund is one of seven apportionment funds designated to support ministries and causes important to the entire United Methodist Church. This fund provides support for bishops—the spiritual and administrative leaders who oversee the church’s work in regions called annual conferences.
Apportionment funds are a way United Methodist churches work together to support meaningful ministry. By giving through this system, churches combine their resources to accomplish more than any single congregation could alone.
Why Does It Matter?
The General Administration Fund matters because it ensures the church operates smoothly and responsibly. It supports the work of the General Conference, the Council of Bishops, and other leadership bodies that make important decisions shaping the church’s future. This fund helps provide the infrastructure for transparent governance and effective leadership.

This fund covers the behind-the-scenes work that allows United Methodists from around the world to come together, make decisions, and lead with accountability. It supports General Conference; a global gathering held every four years where United Methodists come together to make decisions that guide the church’s future. It also helps fund the Judicial Council (our version of a Supreme Court for church matters), maintains historical records through the Archives and History Commission, and helps care for important United Methodist historic sites.
