Church special needs prom brings joy

The Memphis Joy Prom is a night of glamour and fun for adults and teens with special needs. Participants get their hair and nails done and receive donated dresses, then walk a red carpet in front of cheering supporters before going into the dance.

Joy Prom was founded by Christ United Methodist Church in Memphis, Tennessee and has grown to a citywide annual event thanks to the work of more than 800 volunteers. "Joy Prom...provides opportunities for friends ages 16 and up who have never experienced a prom or an event that truly celebrates them and the love Christ has for all of us," say the creators of Joy Prom.
