The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) partnered with the Manila Episcopal Area Disaster Management Office to serve a community that often becomes submerged due to consecutive typhoons and recurring flooding.
Barangay Elvita in Palawan Philippines is situated in a catch basin area. UMCOR responded through concrete and sustainable interventions by providing four major community projects: A box culvert, solar panels and a generator, a water pump, and a greenhouse nursery.
Five months after the implementation of these projects, residents began to witness tangible changes. The project continues to help in uplifting the living conditions of the community, a reflection of how The UMC strives to be a church that embodies the presence of God through serving the people.
