Job Description and Duties of the Music Director (2026)

Benefit Status: Part Time, Salary

FLSA Status: Exempt

Approximately 13 hours per week average

Direct Supervisor: Pastor

Jesus also said go into the world proclaiming the good news and baptizing to make disciples in all nations; and that is the essence of living our faith.

Essential Functions:

1.      Provide or perform piano or organ music for up to two worship services each Sunday

2.      Provide or perform piano or organ music for “extra” worship services

3.      Coordinate and prepare calendar and music plans with the pastor and staff

4.      Collaborate and coordinate with the Pastor and worship chair and other music leaders on weekly services

5.      Provide leadership to the Bell Choir, and Children’s music, or other musical ministries

6.      Lead choir rehearsals during choir season

7.      Direct choir weekly for church service during choir season

8.      Choose choir music appropriate to the liturgical season

9.      Oversee accompanist to ensure preparation for anthems and special music

10.  Provide musical support for weddings and funerals as requested, and available, as coordinated by the Pastor

11.  Maintain confidentiality appropriate to a ministry setting

12.  Plan and oversee expenditures to determine appropriate budgets for music ministries

13.  Work within church budget for the music program and new music

14.  Attend Worship Committee meetings

Qualifications

·        Strong Christian values

·        Has a degree in Music or equivalent

·        Passionate about music growth through faith

·        Strong leadership skills

·        Excels in interpersonal skills, conflict management and resolution

·        Demonstrates accountability

·        Possesses effective written and spoken communication skills

·        Competent in organizational and time management skills

Experience

·        1-3 years in a Christian environment or equivalent, preferably in a United Methodist setting

·        Proven commitment to excellence in musical programs and performance quality

Physical

·        Ability to direct, lead, or participate in musical activities and events
