Newtown United Methodist Church
Newtown, Pennsylvania 18940
Part Time , On-Site
Part-Time | Compensation: $23–$25 per hour (depending on experience) | 12 hours per week.
Newtown United Methodist Church is seeking a creative, dynamic, and proactive leader to help build a youth ministry from the ground up. This is not a traditional youth director role; instead, we are looking for someone who can collaborate with our church to identify and care for a specific group of young people, creatively engage them in faith formation, and develop an innovative and sustainable ministry.
We recognize that youth ministry is not about bringing in a professional to "fix" everything, it is about a whole church community caring deeply and engaging intentionally. We are looking for a visionary leader who can inspire, experiment, and build something meaningful with us.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with the pastor and church leadership to identify and connect with a target youth demographic.
- Develop a creative and engaging youth ministry program that aligns with our values of faith, justice, and community.
- Build relationships with young people, families, and church members to foster an intergenerational faith community.
- Implement innovative approaches to youth discipleship, outreach, and leadership development.
- Serve as a mentor and guide for young people as they explore faith, justice, and their role in the world.
- Help cultivate a culture of care, creativity, and curiosity within the congregation.
- Attend and participate in monthly leadership meetings to ensure alignment with church-wide goals and initiatives.
- Encourage youth participation in worship services through readings, music, ushering, and other meaningful roles.
- Ensure compliance with Safe Church policies, including background checks and training for volunteers working with youth.
Qualifications:
- A passion for youth ministry, innovation, and community-building
- A creative and entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to develop new approaches.
- Experience working with young people in a ministry, education, or community engagement setting.
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to collaborate with pastor, church leaders, and members to build sustainable ministry.
- Theological education or ministry experience preferred, but openness to diverse backgrounds and experiences.
This is a part-time position, requiring 12 hours per week with flexible scheduling based on the church's needs and the candidate’s availability.
To Apply: To apply, candidates should submit a resume and a brief cover letter detailing their vision for youth ministry and their approach to building an engaging program. Applications can be sent to [email protected].
