Christians, Jews, Muslims – all members of faiths that claim descent from Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar, in whose family God promised: “all the families of the earth will be blessed.” Five thousand years later, their spiritual descendants are often trapped in mutual suspicion, misunderstanding, and conflict. Most recently, this history has resulted in the horrific war in what all call the “Holy Land,” in Gaza, the West Bank and now spilling into Iran and the whole region, and into political conflict in the United States and economic stress worldwide. This spiritual journey is an opportunity to explore the mutual roots in Scripture and other story of the three “Abrahamic religions.” It will focus on what we have in common, how each faith’s wisdom can enrich our own, and how to begin having interfaith conversations, a spiritual journey never more relevant than in today’s world. This course has been approved by Discipleship Ministries as an advanced Lay Servant Ministries course, but it is not limited to those needing LSM credit.
