What is Rural Life Sunday?
Rural Life Sunday is one of five Annual Conference Special Sundays that highlight ministries and causes significant to the life of The United Methodist Church. On this day, we honor the lives, labor, and challenges of those living in rural areas and working in agriculture. It also lifts up rural ministries and the unique ways faith is expressed and lived out in rural communities.
Why Does It Matter?
Rural communities are essential to the church and society, yet they often face economic hardship, limited resources, and isolation. This Sunday draws attention to their needs and celebrates their vital contributions to the church’s mission.
Rural Life Sunday matters because it supports ministries that strengthen rural churches, meet pressing needs, and sustain the health and vitality of rural communities.
What Does My Giving Support?
Special Sundays give us a chance to focus our prayers and support on important ministries all year long—uniting our gifts to multiply our impact. This day reminds us that all creation—people and planet alike—belongs to God. Caring for the land and supporting rural communities is part of our faithful response. Gifts received on Rural Life Sunday support outreach, education, and leadership development in rural areas, as well as agricultural ministries and partnerships within your annual conference.
When is Rural Life Sunday Celebrated?
Rural Life Sunday is observed on a date determined by each Annual Conference, often during the spring or planting season.
How Can I Be Part of the Ministry?
You can participate by praying for and supporting rural churches, volunteering with rural ministries, engaging in agricultural missions, or giving to sustain this vital work in your conference. Read more stories and articles about rural life ministries [here].
