In 1940, The United Methodist Church saw the need for a "voice of conscience among Methodists to act in the relief of human suffering without distinction of race, color, or creed." That voice has evolved into what is known today as The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) , a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe. UMCOR's work includes programs and projects in disaster response, health, sustainable agriculture, food security, relief supplies, and more.
Through UMCOR, we can speak hope into the aftermath of the unexpected, and shine love and mercy into desolate places by rebuilding communities and relationships.
UMCOR has been supporting and caring for survivors of all kinds of natural disasters, war, hunger and poverty. Whether it is from earthquakes, tsunamis, or tornadoes and floods The United Methodist Church is one of the first responders on the scene and one of the last to leave an area in need. UMCOR also provides communities with training and education to help local people to be a sustainable source of care and aid.
