Find five ways to disconnect from the clutter of life and connect with spiritual refreshment.
Find five ways to disconnect from the clutter of life and connect with spiritual refreshment.

“The Sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27, NRSV).

God's commandment to observe Sabbath is one based in love. We are not meant to constantly toil. In the creation story of Genesis, even God took time to rest. So we are to rest, as well.

When we do commit to a time of rest, we often find something curious happening: we recognize our place in the world. As the world continues on even as we unplug for a bit, we recognize that not everything hinges upon our own efforts and actions. Ultimately, we recognize that God is in control.

Yet letting go and allowing ourselves time to rest while God continues to work in love is a challenge. These five practices may act as steps toward taking a break and finding refreshment in the ever-present love of God.
