What are 1-2-3-4 Cards?

The 1-2-3-4 cards summarize in a few words the ministry and mission of The United Methodist Church. They are available in two formats: table tents and pocket cards, and provide an easy reference tool that describes four important United Methodist beliefs listed below.

  1. Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by proclaiming the good news of God's grace and by living out Jesus' command to love God and neighbor. Read more about our mission

  2. Personal and social holiness

Wesley used the terms “personal holiness” and “social holiness” to describe our inward growth in the love of God and neighbor, which in turn leads to outward works of love. Find out more about social holiness

  3. Three Simple Rules

Rueben Job offers an updated version of Wesley’s General Rules for today: “do no harm, do good, and stay in love with God.” These simple, but challenging rules offer a distinctively Wesleyan blueprint for living as faithful disciples.

  4. Four Areas of Focus

The United Methodist Church is focusing its mission and ministry around these four areas:
    • Combating the diseases of poverty by improving health globally.
    • Creating new places for new people and revitalizing existing congregations.
    • Developing principled Christian leaders for the church and the world.
    • Engaging in ministry with the poor.
