- Steering Team and Project Team are formed and begin work via correspondence and phone conferencing
- Contract with research firm for study of what contributes to vital congregational life and disciple formation
February - March
- Steering Team and Project Team continue preparations, first phases of research, conversations, and consultations
- Conduct surveys, interviews and on-site visits to gather hypotheses related to drivers of congregational vitality
- Contract with second research firm to assess UMC governance, structures, and processes
March - April
- Develop hypotheses about key "drivers" of congregational vitality for testing
- Begin first of UMC governance, structures, and processes research project
April - June
- Conduct second phase research and statistical modeling on primary drivers of congregational vitality
- Conduct Operational Assessment survey, interviews, and data analysis related to UMC governance, structures, and processes
- Review and assess findings from congregational vitality analysis and research
- Review and assess findings from research on UMC governance, structures, and processes
July - August
- Develop first draft of report on related learning and recommendations
- Consult with church leadership at all levels and continue discernment and revision of report and recommendations
September - November
- Complete revisions of report and recommendations and forward findings to the Council of Bishops and Connectional Table
