The four courses leading to certification in church administration are intended to cover crucial leadership topics that may have not been covered in seminary. Exploring administration, management, and finances, each course builds on the course that precedes it. The first of the four, “Church Leadership and the Bible,” will focus on how being a church leader has changed drastically in the past year as COVID-related issues have changed congregations both temporarily and permanently. Leading through this kind of change will be cross-applied to other types of upheavals that may appear in the future. We will examine how being a church leader in a changing ministry world relates to one’s call and spiritual life, vision and mission, team building, and the congregation’s spiritual journey. In addition to the required book (listed below), recommended readings and websites will help participants enrich their own leadership. Students are required to have the book for this class: Leading The Congregation: Caring For Yourself While Serving The People by Roger Heuser and Norman Shawchuck . This is the first course in the Institute for Discipleship certification in Church Administration, and is a pre-requisite for all of the other courses in the certification.
