Grow in faith and service with historic St. Paul United Methodist Church as we embrace our contemporary role as "The Soul of the Arts District". The only church in downtown Dallas rooted in African American traditions of worship, St. Paul is the sole survivor of what was, for over a century, a neighborhood of monumental black churches. The congregation that greets you today is the same community that has worshiped on this very site without fail since its establishment by a visionary body of recently freed slaves in 1873.

From its founding in a brush arbor to its current standing as the oldest community presence in what has become the Dallas Arts District, St. Paul has remained committed to the spiritual disciplines of prayer, fasting, tithing, and Bible study. Nowhere else in Dallas and in few places remaining in our nation do the words

"God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou Who hast brought, us thus far on, the way"

ring with greater historic resonance than within the serene walls of our recently restored sanctuary. "Lest our feet, stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee," we remain on "the place for which our fathers sighed" united in prayers for our continued guidance along His path. There is no greater testimony to the power of those prayers than the fact that, where here God planted a church in 1873, here we remain. Come feel the power of enduring faith within our storied walls.

Wherever you may be in your personal faith journey, know that our table is the Lord's table. We are not to say who may or may not come. For this reason, our table is always open to you. When you join us at St. Paul, you join a family.

What To Expect

Come just as you are, and be welcomed to a diverse Christian Community that utilizes the Arts in proactively building the Kingdom of God by seeking and making disciples for Jesus Christ through nurture and care, outreach and evangelism, and witness and worship . . . ALL to the Glory of God.

From 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., St. Paul Parking Ministry attendant will be present to greet you at the entrance to and exit from One Arts Plaza Garage off of Wade Street. You may park for free on the third level of the garage. Take the elevator down to the Lobby level, exit One Arts Plaza and walk to your right, crossing Wade Street to St. Paul. Doors to our Welcome Center for persons requiring easy access face south onto Wade Street. Alternatively, and especially for events other than Sunday morning worship, free parking may be available in the fenced lot under Woodall Rodgers Freeway at its intersection with Routh Street. You may enter by climbing the stairs leading up from Routh Street.

At St. Paul, we say that, "If you come for Sunday School, you will never be late for Worship Service." Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m. in our I.B. Loud Fellowship Hall. Take the elevator down to the church basement.

Sunday morning worship begins with an invitation to our altar for silent prayer, followed by Praise Team chorus from 10:45 until 11:00 a.m., when we commence with the traditional elements of our service. First Sundays end with service of Holy Communion. Fifth Sundays are Arts Sundays, when we celebrate our role as The Soul of the Arts District with special presentations of music, drama, visual arts, and sacred dance.

Generally, we carry the light of Christ from our sanctuary and out into the world beyond our walls between 12:30 and 1:00 p.m. every Sunday.
