Welcome
We are the second oldest active Methodist church in Tidewater and one of the oldest Methodist churches in America. Founded in 1772 in Norfolk Cumberland Street Methodist Church has occupied a spot in Norfolk history from before the Revolution to today. Our current congregation moved to the beautiful, residential area of Lafayette in 1922 and was renamed First Methodist Church. All are welcome to join us in the praise and service of Jesus Christ.
What To Expect
First is a large facility with a small, warm congregation. Expect to be greeted and welcomed as a friend. Dress is not as important as the willingness to lend your hand in service.
