The Church and Human Sexuality

The United Methodist Church affirms "that sexuality is God's good gift to all persons. We call everyone to responsible stewardship of this sacred gift." This affirmation is part of the denomination's Social Principles.

At the 2016 General Conference, the Council of Bishops proposed the formation of a Commission on a Way Forward to examine and possibly revise every paragraph of the Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality. 

In February 2019, the Traditional Plan was passed by the Special Session of General Conference. This means our current statements about homosexuality, same-sex marriage and the ordination of LGBTQ persons have not fundamentally changed
