June 9-11, 2011, Princess Anne, Md.
The 227th session of the Peninsula-Delaware Annual Conference was held on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md., June 9-11, 2011.
Led by the conference's Christian Service Team, members of the annual conference and the greater Princess Anne community embraced this year's theme "Live It" by sending several mission groups into the Greenwood section of Princess Anne. These teams worked on several houses in the community making them safer for the residents.
During this year's session, four people were elected and ordained as elders, three people were elected and commissioned as provisional members for ordination as elder and one person was elected and commissioned as a provisional member for ordination as deacon.
The conference was called to order Thursday afternoon by Bishop Peggy Johnson. Opening worship was the first order of business with the Associate Conference Lay Leader Demetrio Beach preaching "Resurrected HOPE...Get Up and Live It!"
We were blessed to have two additional bishops participate in the proceedings of this 227th session. Bishop Robert Schnase led the members of the conference in three training sessions utilizing his work on The Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations. Bishop Woodie White was the preacher at the Ordination Service Friday evening.
Throughout the conference, several offerings were received totaling $45,112.67. The offerings included the Central Congo Partnership, The Pen-Del Board of Ordained Ministry Scholarship Fund and Imagine No Malaria. Monies were also received for Africa University, VIM, Conference Clergy Assistance Fund and You Service. The General Conference Finance and Administration recognized the conference for paying, again this year, 100 percent of its General Apportioned Funds. Additionally, the annual conference approved the 2012 Covenant Funding budget of $5,750,000.
