Can paid staff persons vote on committees?
Staff persons roles on committees varies.
For the church council, the Book of Discipline requires that “all persons with vote shall be members of the local church.”
A paid staff person who is a church member could be elected to serve on the church council as a voting member. Non-member staff persons may serve in an advisory role on the church council, but without vote.
The Book of Discipline prohibits paid staff from serving on the staff parish relations committee.
On the finance committee “the financial secretary, treasurer, and church business administrator, if paid employees, shall be members without vote.”
