2019 Special Session of the General Conference

Application for Media Credentials

Online pre-registration for this event is closed.
To apply, please register on-site.

February 23-26, 2019
St. Louis, Missouri

Applications for media credentials for the 2019 Special Session of the United Methodist General Conference are now being accepted. Applicants may apply online by January 31, 2019 or submit an application on-site. Those who apply online will receive a confirmation acknowledging receipt of the request for credentials. The application will subsequently be reviewed and applicants will be notified as quickly as possible whether the request has been approved. Credentials must be requested for each representative of a media outlet, including photographers.

Credentials will be issued on-site at the General Conference Newsroom in St. Louis. The newsroom is reserved for working press only. Media credentials are required to receive access to the newsroom, media seating and news briefings. To be accredited, individuals must represent a recognized news organization such as a newspaper, wire service, television or radio station, magazine or ongoing newsletter, or must serve as a communicator for a United Methodist agency, annual conference or other church entity. Bloggers may also qualify for credentials if they are affiliated with such a news organization or publication.

Anyone who receives credentials does so with the understanding that they may not participate in demonstrations or serve as a lobbyist for their organization. Violation of this understanding will result in loss of media credentials. Credentialed media may not act as spokespersons or give interviews within the newsroom area. At on-site check-in, applicants will be asked to provide a press ID or letter from the organization’s management or other proof of status. Media will be responsible for their own equipment. Wireless and plug-in Internet access will be available, along with electrical hook-ups.

If you have questions about the process, please feel free to email presscenter@umcom.org or contact the Office of Public Information at United Methodist Communications at (01) 615-742-5406. If you are not able to cover the event on-site, the Special Session will be made available via live video streaming on our website.
