Nothing But Nets Fundraising Contest Rules

Home > Our World > Global Health Initiative > Imagine No Malaria > Nothing But Nets Campaign > Fundraising Ideas > Contest > Contest Rules
  1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. Void where prohibited by law.
  2. Entrants must be between the ages of 12 and 18 as of July 11, 2007. Contestants should have some experience related to the "Nothing But Nets" campaign, either individually, in their local church, or as a part of another group. Membership in The United Methodist Church is not required.
  3. Contest is NOT open to individuals and their immediate family members who are employed by or serve on governing bodies of the 13 United Methodist general boards and agencies (i.e., spouses, parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren and siblings).
  4. The purpose of the contest is to raise the most money for the "Nothing But Nets" ministry through July 11, 2007, the first day of the "Youth 2007" event. A check, made out to Advance #982015, must be brought to "Youth 2007" on or before the contest due date. If not attending "Youth 2007," contestants may mail their check to:

"Nothing But Nets" Fundraising Campaign
United Methodist Communications
P.O. Box 320
Nashville, TN 37202-0320

Envelopes must be postmarked by July 3, 2007.

  1. The United Methodist Church is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, illegible, or postage-due mail.
  2. Contestants are encouraged to use the Team Raiser software on the "Nothing But Nets" Web site. Photos documenting fund-raising efforts are encouraged, but not required.
  3. All fundraising must comply with the following contest rules before money is submitted to the "Nothing But Nets" campaign:
  • All fund-raising efforts must be clearly publicized to benefit "Nothing But Nets."
  • All funds collected by an individual or by a youth group should be combined, and one check should be written to Advance #982015. Cash will not be accepted.
  1. Along with the check, please include the following information:
  • A letter from an adult sponsor of the activity to authenticate the contestant's participation in the campaign.
  • Entrant's name or name of church with which the youth group is affiliated, church's average worship attendance, address and telephone number.
  • The signed authorization of a parent or legal guardian. The authorization must state that the parent or legal guardian has read, understood, and agreed to the rules on the contestant's behalf. An otherwise timely entry is not invalid if the parental authorization is submitted after the contest deadline. However, if a winner fails to do so within 2 weeks of being notified of his or her selection as a winner, that winner forfeits his or her prize and the prize will be awarded to the next-highest ranked entry as determined by the sole discretion of the judges.
  1. Decisions of the contest judges are final.
  2. The prize is not redeemable in cash and must be accepted as awarded.
  3. Three contestants will be selected as the overall winners of three identical prizes: a paid trip to the United Nations in New York. The winner and adult companion will receive VIP passes and a tour of the United Nations to enrich their understanding of the United Nations and, especially, the UN Foundation's role in the "Nothing But Nets" ministry.
  4. If a youth group enters as a unit, that group must select one person to represent it.
  5. Duration of the trip will be three days. Winners must be accompanied by one adult companion (parent or legal guardian), whose travel expenses will also be paid. Winners will be notified via the address entered with their submission. We are not responsible for invalid or incorrect addresses that truncate the winner-notification process. We will not acknowledge receipt of any entry.
  6. Once confirmed, trip dates and travel accommodations cannot be changed by winner; however, travel is subject to availability blackout dates and/or change due to circumstances beyond The United Methodist Church's control. Winner and adult companion must travel on the same dates, itinerary, and fare class. No extensions will be permitted, and any unused travel will be forfeited. Prize cannot be issued in conjunction with any other promotion or offer and may not be separated. All tickets issued in conjunction with the prize are not eligible for frequent-flyer miles, and no code-share flights may be used.
  7. The contest is open to three categories of individuals and youth groups, based on average worship attendance reported in the General Minutes of the Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church 2005:
  • 1-199 members
  • 200-499 members
  • 500 or more members
  1. All taxes are the sole responsibility of the winner and adult companion. Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be substituted. An IRS Form 1099 will be issued to all prize recipients for any prize valued at $600 or more.
  2. By entering the contest, entrants hold harmless The United Methodist Church from any liability whatsoever for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, liability, actions or damages of any kind or in connection with: (1) entering the contest; (2) acceptance of any prize; or (3) anything related to the contest and the awarding of prizes. Any claims relating to this contest shall be governed by Tennessee law without regard to its conflict of law rules, and any such claim must be heard in Tennessee.
  3. If provision of these rules is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction or appointed arbitrator, such determination shall in no way affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision therein.
  4. These rules are subject to change by The United Methodist Church, if so desired. The United Methodist Church may also elect to terminate this contest prior to awarding any winners by its sole discretion.
