Japan relief efforts pay off
NEW YORK (UMNS) -- By October, United Methodist Committee on Relief had received $11.8 million for earthquake/tsunami relief and recovery work in Japan as Japanese-American Methodists moved quickly to find ways to raise money. Substantial grants already have been made to both Japanese and international partners.
Philippine clergywomen celebrate gains

The meeting was sponsored by the Board of Higher Education and Ministry, the denomination’s agency that oversees campus ministries and institutions of higher education.
First Vietnamese UMC in Arkansas
FORT SMITH, Ark. (UMNS) -- Sunday, Oct. 9, marked an important event for the South Central Jurisdiction and the Arkansas Annual (regional) Conference. About 55 people gathered to break ground for the jurisdiction’s first Vietnamese United Methodist church, a 4,000-square-foot building in Fort Smith.
Obesity rising among faithful
