FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 5, 2015
NASHVILLE: United Methodist Communications will be hosting a time of preparation for the 2016 General Conference of The United Methodist Church at the Pre-General Conference Briefing on January 20-22 in Portland, Oregon.
The briefing will inform delegates, church and secular journalists, and other interested parties about topics that will be considered by the denomination’s legislative body when it meets May 10-20 in Portland.
At the briefing, attendees will learn how General Conference will operate and how it will be different from previous conferences, as well as discuss major legislation, Christian conferencing and key activities. This opportunity is especially helpful for first-time delegates as they prepare for their new role.
Dan Krause, chief executive of United Methodist Communications, said, “This event aims to prepare delegates for their important role at General Conference, as well as inform all of us about what we can expect in May. We at United Methodist Communications hope that all delegates will be a part of this time of learning and discussion.”
The briefing is also an opportunity for attendees to get to know each other and to become familiar with the 2016 General Conference host city and venue.
The event will begin with a welcome reception on Wednesday, January 20, at 5 p.m., followed by the briefing on January 21 and 22 at the Oregon Convention Center.
An early bird registration rate of $199 will be offered through November 30; after that date, the cost will be $229. Participants will be responsible for their own travel and lodging costs.
