The Financial Administration Legislation Committee will ask a plenary session to create two new funds totaling $12 million without raising the total proposed World Service budget.

The committee wants to provide $5 million for theological education in central conferences and $7 million to recruit and train young clergy in the five U.S. jurisdictions.

A new committee, composed of central conference representatives, will determine where and how the $5 million will be allocated.

The plan, which will reduce the amount of money going to general agencies, was approved by a vote of 79 to 0, with one abstention. The proposed budget had already reduced funds for agencies by 6.4 percent.
