GC2012 End-Of-Day Prayer, May 1
United Methodist Women continued to gather for and end-of-day prayer after the evening worship of General Conference. For Tuesday, May 1, the evening prayer was about “Family.” From The Book of Uncommon Prayer 2, it states:
God of Love, thank you for this family. We don’t all have to live under the same roof to be family. We don’t have to have the same blood. This church is family. Family is there when you hurt and when you dance. Family is there when you are lost and when you have found your way home. God, this family is made of love. We don’t have to agree all the time. We can argue with love, we can create with love, we can teach with love. That’s what family is, God. You have given us one another, and we will cherish one another. We will cherish each moment we have together. We will be your family. Amen.
This particular prayer is a reminder that whether we agree or disagree on issues, we are still a family as a global church body. After a week and a half of worshiping, debating, questioning, praying, and working with one another, have we grown closer as a family? Have we loved and cherished each other like a family? Are we arguing, creating, and teaching–with love?
As always, join us at the column in front of the West Hall to participate in end-of-day prayer 5 minutes after closing worship. These gatherings are organized by
United Methodist Women.
