GC2012 End-of-Day Prayer, April 30

We’re back from the weekend with legislation, voting, plenaries, worship, and all things General Conference! As part of United Methodist Women MeetUps, we gather every day 5 minutes after evening worship to center and reflect upon the day. All are welcome to join us! We meet by the West Hall. Here was our evening prayer for Monday, April 30:

We are growing weary, Lord. Our backs hurt, our feet ache. More than once we’ve asked ourselves “Why are we doing this?” Then we remember. We see the missionaries, deaconesses, and home missioners who are commissioned to go out and do your work in the world. We get messages of encouragement from friends in our home churches. We see the roads we’ve begun to journey down and we remember why we have been sent here and why we do this. Give us strength, Lord. Our hearts are willing, but our bodies need help! Let us feel your love, God, and the rest will be easy. Your servants will not fail you. We are not of one mind and heart, but we are all here to do your work. Give us rest and peace of mind. Let us put away those things that distract us from the job at hand. Help us remember that we are here in the name of your son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

At the halfway point of General Conference, with the voting begun, and long days past and ahead, does this ring true? Are you “growing weary,” as a delegate, officer, staff, musician with worship team, volunteer, or observer from afar via Twitter or the Live Stream? Are you asking, “Why are we doing this?”

How are you asking God for help during General Conference? What helps you stay at the task at hand?
