Purpose of Positon: The Director of Youth Ministries will have a passion to help youth and young adults to grow spiritually in their faith. He/She will possess a commitment to Christ and a personal commitment to the Christian faith and the theology of the United Methodist Church. He/She will work with the congregation and staff of Bethesda United Methodist Church, its Board of Stewards and Staff-Parish Relations Committee to develop and coordinate separate but interrelated ministries for the youth (6th grade through college) of the church and community, to the end that all may become disciples of Jesus Christ.
 

Education/Experience/Skills Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree, with preference for a degree or emphasis in Christian Education, Youth Ministry, or related field. Prior professional experience working with youth is preferred. ~ Be a self-starter and possess readiness to autonomously work with diverse persons. Demonstrate an understanding of youth development, spiritual formation, volunteer recruitment and small group formation. Show competence with computer office programs and social media (Facebook, Twitter, website management, etc.)
 

Areas of Responsibilty: Oversee development and implementation of youth programs including a Confirmation Class yearly with assistance of the Pastor  ~ Develop and manage Student Ministry budgets as approved by the Finance Committee ~ Recruit, train and coordinate volunteer ministry teams for youth programs ~ Recruit, train, mentor and supervise youth counselors and interns ~ Engage students directly by occasionally attending community, school and worship events, providing mentorship and guidance as needed ~ Mentor, connect and support college students and their ministries ~ Work with the Sunday School Superintendent and volunteer Sunday School teachers to acquire age-appropriate curriculum ~ Ensure adherence to the Safe Sanctuary policies and guidelines and follow the
personnel policies of Bethesda United Methodist Church ~ Assist Pastor and church leaders in congregational care ~ Participate in related District and Conference ministries ~ Be available to assume other responsibilities not included in this description at the direction of the Pastor, Board of Stewards and Staff-Parish Relations Committee.

The Director of Youth Ministries position requires flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. The position is full time and salaried. The actual number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. It is recognized that the schedule will vary at
different times of the year allowing for weeks with fewer hours and weeks with longer hours. Actual hours and office schedule will be discussed and agreed upon as needed with the Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee liaison.
