Director of Youth and Children’s Ministry

 

Chevy Chase United Methodist Church (Chevy Chase, MD) seeks a Director of Youth and Children’s Ministry to lead our ministries with children, teens and families.

 

Chevy Chase United Methodist Church is a growing and vibrant congregation in the Washington, DC area. We are an intergenerational congregation that values mission and service, creativity and the arts, spirited worship and extending hospitality to all people. On Sunday mornings we offer contemporary and traditional worship services with a total average attendance of 150 and a total Sunday school average attendance of 40 children and teens. Connecting with Christ and community is reflected in all our ministries and programs.

                                             

The Director of Youth and Children’s Ministry leads ministries that encourage children, teens and families to grow in their faith and understanding of being a disciple of Jesus Christ.

 

The position is 30 hours a week with compensation that is commensurate with experience.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

Support and enable children and youth to grow in faith and understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ
Oversee and lead the youth ministry, including weekly programming, major youth events, other opportunities for Christian service
Work with the Pastor to develop and implement a youth and children’s ministry that fulfills the congregation’s vision for ministry
Work with lay leaders to develop a team of lay people to serve as youth counselors, Sunday school teachers, and children’s ministry volunteers and provide lay volunteer training, ongoing support, and coordination
Oversee fundraising efforts to support youth ministry expenses for items such as mission trips, special projects, and retreats
Engage with youth outside of the church through home visits, attending sports, or other extra-curricular events
Be present in and around worship and oversee the children’s message in Sunday worship services and monthly children’s chapel services
Oversee budgets and funds for children and youth ministries
Work with the Christian Education Committee and maintain a working relationship with the Committee Chair and the Sunday School liaison

 

The ideal candidate will:

Model an authentic and growing faith in Jesus Christ
Demonstrate knowledge of the Bible and how to apply it to life
Equip and encourage children, teens and adults to be active in ministry
Identify and develop gifts in others
Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with others

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree (minimum), with educational background in Ministry, Child Development, Education or related field preferred
Experience leading activities with youth, preferably in a church setting
Knowledge of and ability to use social media
Pass a background check
Complete annual Chevy Chase UMC “Safe Sanctuaries” questionnaire
