College Chaplain & Director of the Christian Leadership CenterShreveport, Louisiana (LA), USA 71104
Centenary College of Louisiana invites applications for a College Chaplain and Director of the Christian Leadership Center, beginning August 2017. This position reports to the Dean of Students and serves as a member of the Student Development team, working especially closely with the Director of Professional Discernment. In addition, the person in this position will teach Religion 200, the CLC Colloquium.
The Christian Leadership Center provides a transformational curricular and co-curricular growth experience for undergraduate students. As members of an ecumenical and inclusive community, participants explore their own beliefs and values, engage in small discussion groups, participate in the weekly Colloquium course, and give back to the community through internships, usually through local churches or non-profit organizations related to that individual student’s goals and interests. The successful candidate will oversee the Christian Leadership Center in the areas of budget, academic support, and structural vision, providing guidance to Centenary College students in alignment with the goals of the Student Development division. The candidate will work cooperatively with the Development office in areas of stewardship and the support of outreach efforts with the United Methodist Church.
As Chaplain, the successful candidate will provide pastoral care, counseling, and referrals upon request in a college associated with the United Methodist Church, but with a commitment to fostering religious diversity and providing ecumenical and interfaith support to all members of the college community. The Chaplain will also work with faculty and others on ongoing initiatives such as work with the Interfaith Youth Corps and the college's Beliefs and Values Project.
A Master of Divinity or other relevant Master's degree is required at the time of employment. In addition, the Chaplain must be licensed as a UMC local pastor or commissioned or ordained as a Deacon or Elder in the United Methodist Church, or pursuing such credentials.
