Thank You for visiting us online on the Find-a-Church internet site provided by the United Methodist Church. We welcome all to share with us our family friendly worship service each Sunday from 09:00 AM through 10:00 AM as part of Our Lord's Worldwide fellowship.

If you are in search of a church to call your spiritual home or just passing through the area we would be delighted to have you fellowship with us in worship.

If you are looking for a church home, please consider the First United Methodist Church of New Kensington, 130 Ridge Avenue in New Kensington Pennsylvania. Our phone number is 724-335-1804. Our doors, hearts, and minds have been open in service to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Allegheny Valley since 1869.

We welcomed Sharon Waltenbaugh as our pastoral shepherd on July 3, 2016 shared as part of the Tri- City Charge with our neighboring Arnold and Braeburn, PA United Methodist Churches.

Methodism began in the New Kensington area in 1843 with the local charge being established in 1869. A small frame structure was erected in 1889 and a new brick facility was erected in 1898. Internal improvements were completed and the building was enlarged again in the 1930s. An educational wing was added and a complete interior remodeling began with ground breaking on March 19th 1961. The “new” First Church was dedicated in June 1962. The sanctuary looks today much as it did upon being remodeled in the 1960s. A major architectural feature of the First Church is the exquisite craftsmanship of tiffany-style stained glass windows on the northern and southern exposures which were originally installed in the early 1900s.

Church can happen anywhere.  It happens when we create learning opportunities that transform lives. It happens when we create safe environments where children can play and learn. It happens when education makes the path to citizenship a little easier. And when our sacrifices help nourish students’ minds and bodies. That’s putting beliefs into action.

What We Offer

The First United Methodist Church of New Kensington Pennsylvania. We at the "First Church" strive to embrace the heritage passed from God through His son Jesus Christ and of Methodism's founder, John Wesley:

"Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can."

"I want to know one thing, the way to heaven; how to land safe on that happy shore. God Himself has condescended to teach the way; for this end He came from heaven. He hath written it down in a book. Give me that book! At any price give me the Book of God!"

"I continue to dream and pray about a revival of holiness in our day that moves forth in mission and creates authentic community in which each person can be unleashed through the empowerment of the Spirit to fulfill God's creational intentions."

— John Wesley

For John Wesley, faith is a gift from God, not something that we accomplish on our own. Instead of simply being our decision or choice, faith is made possible by God's grace in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. When we are forgiven, we are also set free to be able to live a new life. Being forgiven (justified) intitates our ability to become truly holy (sanctified).
