Event Details

Join fellow poetry enthusiasts for a monthly reading by local poet, Richard Nelson. Poet's Corner is free and open to the public, and takes place in the Fondren building, 2nd floor, at Scarritt Bennett Center. Nelson is the author of more than 25 books. His latest publication, "Glimpses of Life in Pictures and Words," is a hard-cover, 1,162-page memoir. His education includes a B.A. in Psychology (1966, CSC Chico), an M.A. in Vocational Education (1978,CSC Los Angeles), and a DPhil in the Integration of Religion and Society, (2012, Oxford Graduate School). Nelson is a general contractor, real estate developer, associate real estate broker, and ordained Christian pastor. His prolific writings focus on family, nature, travel, international leadership and pastor training, biblical studies and work. Maya Angelou once asked him about his doings. When he started to reply “I am not a typical poet…” she instantly interjected, as only she could do, “Dr. Nelson, there is no such things as a typical poet!” His readers are quick to realize her observation, whether it be in his poetry, prose or academic publications.
