Photography is a visual avenue for your devotions during the seasons of Advent & Christmas. The camera offers a new way to see/experience these seasons of hope, peace and light. The images themselves can shed new light on our journey to Bethlehem and beyond.
Val Isenhower, experienced teacher and author on photography as a spiritual practice, will lead this Advent study. Participants log in to receive daily photo and meditation ideas during this class which begin the first Monday of Advent and end the Monday after Epiphany.
You’ll be asked to share thoughts and experiences on the discussion board two or more times a week based on their insights and visual experiences of Christ’s presence in this joyful season. We also use a class blog to share our Advent/Christmas photos. Blackboard closes December 20th so the class will move to a private Facebook group. For those who aren’t on Facebook, Val will finish the course through e-mail communication.
This course is based on the concepts offered in Meditation on Both Sides of the Camera by Valerie K. Isenhower, which participants are asked to purchase for this course. This eBook can be purchased from Val’s website or the Upper Room on-line bookstore. This course is for anyone interested in learning how to combine photography and the spirituality of Advent. Any type of camera will work, although digital cameras will make uploading pictures easier. This course is eligible for 1.5 CEUs. Price: $75
***This is an online course, meaning you can participate at the time of day that works best for your schedule. Course materials will become available at Noon Central on the start day, and you should plan to spend an hour or two (whenever you choose) every day interacting with the course and on the discussion boards.***
