What are the best ways and skills needed to read poetry aloud to people that have come to be inspired and entertained by your reading? In this workshop, led by James C. Collins, we will explore the effective use of your voice; dealing with nerves; use of microphone, papers, podium, etc.; audience contact; and how to transform a reading into a presentation. Techniques will be explored and exercises will be used. All participants will have time to practice/share learnings. Experienced poetry readers as well as novices can improve their reading skills through this workshop. This event costs $30 to attend. Register today! About James C. Collins: James (Jamie) C. Collins, a poet, teacher, writer of plays, books and musicals will facilitate the workshop. Jamie has a degree in Mass Communication from the University of Florida and has taught in the school systems of Tampa and St Petersburg, Florida. He wrote a non-violent curriculum for schools in North Carolina, has served as a copywriter in print/audio advertising, and since living in Nashville he has written five books for children. He is a regular reader in Poet’s Corner at Scarritt Bennett Center.
