Religion & Race Presents Facing the Future 2018
Washington, DC: Hundreds of pastors in cross-racial/cross-cultural ministry from across the country will engage in learning and networking on May 7-9, as they gather at the Newark International Airport Marriott to attend Facing the Future 2018, The General Commission on Religion and Race's third national conference for clergy serving in cross-racial/cross-cultural appointments.
Themed "In the Midst of the Storm," Facing the Future 2018 will be rooted in biblical and theological frameworks, feature peer-to-peer learning, deep self-reflection, and opportunities for self- initiated networking in a nurturing environment of affirmation.
In describing the conference, General Secretary Erin Hawkins stated:
"We are living in an especially turbulent time. Storms of hatred and bigotry are dividing our country and our churches. Our contemporary struggles to live together across cultures are often intensely felt by clergy serving in cross-racial and cross-cultural appointments.
As multicultural communities increase all across the country, the church must become more adept at living its mission in this context. Pastors serving in cross-racial and cross-cultural appointments can serve as key agents in the task of building beloved community especially in the face of cultural division.
Facing the Future seeks to empower and equip these pastors so that they are supported in being one of the denomination's most underestimated resources."
Leaders from across the connection will lead worship, plenary sessions and workshops that will give participants opportunity for prayer and reflection; dialogue and learning; and relationship and capacity building.
1.25 CEU's will be offered for pastors wanting to use this conference as an opportunity for continuing education.
Early registration is open until Jan. 14, at the rates of $325 which includes a double occupancy room, $475 for a single occupancy room and $200 for commuters. Regular registration begins Jan. 15 at the rates of $350/double, $495/single, and $225/commuter.
